Halton Lea Library is hosting a talk by local North West author, David Hewitt, to mark the centenary of events in WWI.

He comes to the Halton Borough Council venue on Thursday 29 June, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

In his book, Joseph, 1917, David uncovers a secret history of soldier Joseph Blackburn, from Thornton Cleveleys in Lancashire, who following a tribunal was forced to go to war and died on the Western Front.

Hewitt, a tribunal judge himself, draws on historic WWI legal records and newspaper reports to tell Joseph’s forgotten story and those of others like him. Joseph, 1917 is a book that is different in its subject and scope from almost every other one published about the war. Not only is it a military history, it is a life story and a family and social history.

David’s talk will certainly appeal to people who enjoy Who Do You Think You Are? Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Libraries,

Cllr Phil Harris, said: “We are really looking forward to hosting David’s talk at Halton Lea Library. “This has been an incredibly popular talk in other parts of the North West and people who enjoy reading history and biographies will certainly find this fascinating.”
