Widnes may be famous for its Vikings – but this year’s North West Vintage Steam Rally, which will take place on September 23 and 24 this year, will take a Norman theme.

Thousands are expected to flock to Victoria Park as Halton Borough Council hosted the 17th annual Vintage Rally. They can also see Crissy Rock,  Rebecca Lake, Robert Squire and our other panto stars.

The largest free admission gathering of vintage fair organs and vintage machinery in the UK will feature Historia Normannis,a 12th century reenactment group, focusing primarily on the events between the reign of Henry I and King John.

It will set up camp there and perform battles as well a examples of craft and everyday life, during the weekend, bringing a taste of medieval life to Halton.

Historia Normannis prides itself as a society, bringing history to life in a historically accurate, engaging and exciting way.

Events and educational visits allow people to engage with history – seeing, feeling and hearing first-hand aspects of the lives and deaths of 12th century people – Knights, freemen, craftsmen, ladies of the court and Barons of the realm.

From dynamic and exciting massed combat, knights displaying their prowess in the tourney, displays of archery, woodwork, metalworking, to the singing and music of the court of the time, Historia Normannis presents f 12th century life, and offers a history lesson that you will never forget!

Beautifully maintained fair organs will be joined by free entertainment in the main arena provided by H&M Dog Display Team and Vale Royal Falconry.
