Figures released this month show that Halton’s readers just can’t get enough of thriller novels.

Halton Borough Council has published its libraries’ most borrowed books for 2015/16 (data compiled by the PLR, the UK Public Lending Right Office) and 18 of the top 20 books are thriller and crime novels such as Get Even by Martina Cole and Personal by Lee Child.

The most read author amongst Halton Libraries’ readers is James Patterson, who has an a astonishing eight books in the top 20. The top one was Alert by James Patterson Century with 150 borrows in the last year

(Nationally it was The Girl on The Train, by Paula Hawkins.)

Halton residents also enjoy contemporary fiction with Harper Lee’s 2015 book, ‘Go Set a Watchman’, appearing in the list alongside local history books ‘Runcorn Through the Ages’ and ‘Widnes Through Time’ both by Jean and John Bradburn.

Halton’s children are also keen book lovers with ‘Peppa Pig: Hide and Seek’ being the most borrowed junior book.

Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Libraries, Cllr Phil Harris, said “It is great to see the type of books that our borrowers like to read. We have such a broad range of books and ebooks at Halton Libraries for all ages – people are spoilt for choice. Staff are always on hand to recommend a good read to people as well.”
