National Tree Week runs from 22nd – 30th November and marks the start of the UK tree planting season.
Organised by The Tree Council, this annual celebration encourages communities, organisations, and volunteers to come together and plant trees and hedgerows across the country.
In Halton, we’re proud to be part of this nationwide effort alongside The Mersey Forest. Our teams have been busy working with The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) on Wigg Island Local Nature Reserve, planting trees and laying hedgerows to enhance local biodiversity.
And there’s more, on 28 November we’ll be at Halebank Allotments for a hands-on community event. Where we are re-establishing a community orchard and carrying out activities like fruit tree pruning, planting, and preparing the space for a productive season ahead. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, meet like-minded people, and make a real difference to your local environment. Look out for more of these projects in the coming year.
Executive Board Member for Environment and Urban Renewal at Halton Borough Council, Paul Nolan said “I think this is a great opportunity for members of the local community to come together with the council to plant trees for the future, learn new skills and learn about the management of fruit production orchards”.
Paul Nolan, Director of The Mersey Forest, said: “Every tree and hedgerow planted across Cheshire and Merseyside is helping to grow The Mersey Forest and providing more people with access to nature and the range of benefits this brings for our communities and wellbeing. Community Orchards and planting events, like those taking place in Halton, are a fantastic way for people to play their part in boosting local biodiversity, caring for local greenspaces and to meet other like-minded people. Thank you to everyone who is coming along to help.”
