Residents and businesses in Halton are being asked to share their views on proposed works to create access for the Runcorn Busway Cycleway Scheme.

Halton Borough Council’s Runcorn Busway Cycleway Scheme aims to create approximately 6 km of new safe, better-connected routes for both pedestrians and cyclists along the existing Runcorn Busway corridor which will also link up with eh already constructed active travel corridors to Whitehouse industrial estate and to Halton Lea. The proposed route of the Scheme will follow the existing busway from Halton Lodge to Runcorn East Train Station, connecting Halton Lodge, Castlefield’s, Windmill Hill and Murdishaw.

The project will involve the removal of approximately 19 trees that are directly affected by the plans. The trees planned to be removed are located in four areas along the busway: at Murdishaw interchange, Parkgate Way, Windmill Hill Bus Stops, and to the rear of Calvers, Runcorn.

To compensate for the loss of vegetation, Halton Borough Council is committed to replanting in other areas along the bus corridor and throughout the Runcorn area, replacing each tree that is felled with a new planted tree.

Cllr Stef Nelson, Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Environment and Urban Renewal said “The scheme is all about creating better access and enabling the people of Halton to make more sustainable and healthy travel choices. By creating thoughtful pedestrian and cyclist routes, we aim to provide better connections between areas in Runcorn that will benefit businesses, residents and visitors into the area. We’ve identified only specific trees that would be directly impacted by the construction of the new facilities.”

This consultation is being facilitated by Halton Borough Council and will run until Thursday 20th February 2025.
