If you are planning a street party to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, Halton Borough Council has all the details you need to apply for a road closure.

The Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May, 2023.

A number of national celebrations are being planned across the Coronation weekend.

On Sunday 7th May, neighbours and communities across the United Kingdom are invited to share food and fun together at Coronation Big Lunches, in a nationwide act of celebration and friendship. From a cup of tea with a neighbour to a street party, a Coronation Big Lunch brings the celebrations to your neighbourhood and is a great way to get to know your community a little better.

The Coronation Big Lunch will be overseen and organised by the Big Lunch team at the Eden Project. The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project, made possible by The National Lottery, that brings millions of people together annually to boost community spirit, reduce loneliness and support charities and good causes. Her Majesty The Queen Consort has been Patron of the Big Lunch since 2013.

Free downloadable resources will also be made available online by the Big Lunch team at CoronationBigLunch.com, to help people and communities start their Coronation Big Lunch planning.

To hold a street party you will need to apply to formally close off your street. There is no cost, but your application needs to be in by 31 March 2023 to enable the Council to carry out the street closure process.

The guidance and application form are on the Council website. The information incudes conditions that must be met for a street party to take place.

You can send your completed form by e-mail to streetworks.tm@halton.gov.uk or take a printed version to any Halton Direct Link office, or post to: Street Parties Road Closure Applications, Highways Department, Municipal Building, Kingsway, Widnes, WA8 7QF.
