The project reached a major milestone when the completion of the steelwork was marked by a ‘topping out’ ceremony.
Topping out is a construction industry tradition to mark a milestone in a project and to celebrate the hard work everyone has put in so far.
Halton’s contractor Wates invited their staff working on the leisure centre to a small celebration, along with the Council and the other contractors involved, when the last bolt on the steelwork was fixed into place.
Council Leader, Cllr Mike Wharton, Chief Executive, Stephen Young, and portfolio holders, Cllr Dave Thompson and Cllr Paul Nolan, took part in the ceremony.
The completed steel structure, and now the roof works, provide great views for passing traffic and pedestrians.
Despite some recent bad weather – including strong winds – the construction project remains on track with the first floor concrete now cast and roof work progressing well.
Behind hoardings, the main pool walls are almost complete, and brickwork has started on the sports hall. Many of internal fixtures and fittings have been selected, and architects have unveiled the colour scheme and products for the internal fit out.
Further information on progress is now available to view at Kingsway Leisure Centre.
