Halton students have been enjoying well-earned celebrations after achieving excellent A Level and GCSE results.
Schools and colleges in the borough reported some exceptional results, with marked improvements in certain subjects, and many students have secured university places or apprenticeships.
At Cronton Sixth Form and Riverside Colleges, the A Level pass rate was 99.6% with 54% achieving grades A* to B. In vocational qualifications there was a 99% pass rate with 96% receiving high grades, and an outstanding 100% pass rate at T Level with100% of students achieving a merit or distinction.
College students have gained places at the some of the country’s top universities including Oxford and the Russell Group universities, a record number have secured places to study medicine at university, and others have received offers to study degree apprenticeships with major organisations. Four students have been awarded scholarships to study in the United States – a remarkable achievement!
This year’s cohort at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy saw key success in Business Studies (A Level and BTEC), Mathematics and English Language, with many of the talented students securing coveted university places or positions in highly skilled employment.
At GCSE there were many successes, and students will now move on to further study, apprenticeships or employment. Examples include:
Saints Peter and Paul Catholic High School report record-breaking results with 70% of students achieving a 4+ in Maths, 70% a 4+ in English with almost 60% a grade 5+ – all a marked improvement. Boys at the school also bucked the national trend by attaining in line with girls.
Sandymoor Ormiston Academy saw one of their strongest years in attainment. Students achieved highly in all subjects including art, in which 50% gained the highest grades of 8 and 9, and Spanish, where 50% achieved a grade 7 or higher. The number of students passing in English and mathematics, as well as strong passes in the humanities, saw significant increases on previous years.
Wade Deacon High School celebrate some of the best exam results in the school’s history with 44% of students receiving the top grades of 7 or above in English. Overall, 76.3% of students gained 9-4 grades in English and Maths, while 62.1% secured a Grade 5 and above in the subjects. This is in stark contrast to national performance, especially in Maths and English, where pass rates have fallen.
At The Grange Academy there were improvements across the board. including a rise in the number of students achieving grade 4 in English Language and English Literature, improved results in Humanities and Modern Foreign Languages, as well as strong progress in many of the foundation subjects, such as Music, Performing Arts and Sports Science.
Blessed Carlo Acutis Catholic and Church of England Academy are delighted that 47 per cent of students achieved five or more strong GCSE passes, equivalent to grade C or above. The proportion of students achieving grade 4 or higher in English and maths rose by 7.2 per cent compared to last year, while those securing grade 5 or higher increased by 12.3 per cent.
Ormiston Chadwick Academy reported strong performance across the board with notable results in English and maths at grades 9-5, as did Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy where results were particularly good in English language, English literature, history and modern foreign languages, and well done to The Heath School Class of ’25 for their excellent set of results.
