The return of Halton Borough Council’s water safety event was held at Phoenix Park, Runcorn, on Thursday 18 June.
Planned by the Council’s Environment Services Team, the event brought together more than 250 children from eight of the town’s schools, emergency responders, as well as the Mayor of Halton to help promote responsible behaviour around water safety, during Drowning Prevention Week.
The event featured information sessions from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service who were also joined by RLSS, HBC Lifeguards, Beechwood Lifeguards, Canal River Trust and HBC Park Safety Team who all helped to provide water safety education on the day.
The topics covered included:
• Reach, Throw, Don’t Go techniques
• Water Safety Code
• Float to Live Message
• CPR Demonstration Techniques
• Water Safety Educational Lesson
• Best Practice Advice Whilst Around Water
Cllr Andrea Wall, the Council’s Executive Board Member for Community Safety, said: “With the current heatwaves the country is experiencing our residents may feel tempted to turn to the borough’s many bodies of water. These events are vital in making sure our children are aware of the dangers presented by water which will help keep them safe from harm.”
