Halton Borough Council is proud to announce the introduction of the Music Heritage Trail which will aim to highlight the rich music history in Halton.
Halton is the birthplace of Mel C and Nicola Roberts, as well as hosting The Beatles, Freddie Mercury, Elton John, The Stone Roses, Gary Barlow, Bryan Adams and many more.
The borough has also witnessed some key events in these musical legends’ careers.
Halton was the final local performance of The Beatles, the following day, the band went to London to record their debut single Love Me Do.
It is where Freddie Mercury adopted his signature half-mic stand, with his pre-Queen band Wreckage, due to a faulty mic stand.
Gary Barlow performed huge hit A Million Love Songs for the first time publicly in Halton when he was still just a teenager.
The borough has had a massive impact on the music world filled with legendary gigs, iconic venues, and local music heroes.
Speaking about the trail, Cllr Laura Bevan, Executive Board member for Employment, Learning, Skills, and Community, said: “As someone who has lived in Halton all my life and is a passionate music fan, I’m absolutely thrilled about the creation of a Music Heritage Trail across Halton. Our borough has an incredibly rich and diverse musical history, and this is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate it. “
She continued: “What makes this project truly special is that it will be shaped by the people of Halton, through their personal stories, memories, and experiences. I really hope as many people as possible get involved and share their musical moments – I certainly will be.”
Two in-person sessions will be taking place to allow residents to share their unique stories which will then be incorporated into the tour.
The two sessions will take place at:
- Widnes Indoor Market: Wednesday 9th July, 10am-2pm
- Runcorn Mural Launch (under the Queensway underpass, Egerton Street, Runcorn): Saturday 26th July, 1pm-5pm
If you have a story to tell, then get yourself down to one of these locations and share it.
