Detachment Commander SSgt Brian Jacobs from Widnes Detachment, Normandy Company, Cheshire Army Cadet Force, visited three of our Halton Council Care Homes this March.
Brian began his visit at Millbrow Care Home, where he was warmly welcomed by Louise, our Armed Forces Champion. Together they spent time with residents, sharing stories and connecting with our veteran residents and the spouses of veterans. Millbrow Care Home also made a donation to SSgt Brian Jacobs for detachment funds, raised through a recent “Wear Your Jumper Day.”
At St Patrick’s, Lindsay and Brian had the privilege of presenting three veteran residents with their well-earned Veteran Badges, which Lindsay had applied for through the Ministry of Defence. All three residents accepted their badges with great pride – a truly special moment for everyone involved.

Brian then visited Madeline McKenna Court, where Marie gave him a tour of the home. During the visit, Brian spent time with one of our Signals veterans, discovering they shared the same cap badge from Brian’s own service in the Regular Army. The two had plenty in common and shared many laughs while reminiscing about their time in service.
The visit ended with a very touching moment. One of our residents lost her husband during his military service, having been killed on active duty. In remembrance of her husband, Brian and the resident planted a cherry blossom tree together, creating a lasting tribute to his service and sacrifice.
A heartfelt thank you to SSgt Brian Jacobs for taking the time to visit our homes and spend such meaningful time with our residents.
