Do you have any time to spare, enjoy meeting new people, and would like to develop new skills or use those you already have? Then volunteering for us could be just up your street.
Sure Start to Later Life offer a free information and signposting service to the over 55’s in Halton, working with those who are affected by social isolation and loneliness for various reasons. One aspect of the team is our volunteering service.
Volunteering can be a fun and rewarding experience for both the volunteer and the person receiving support from them.
The volunteering team at Sure Start to Later Life has been going from strength to strength and currently has volunteers from all walks of life, however, there is a shortage of volunteers to support people in the Runcorn area.
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Members for Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Marie Wright, said: “All volunteers go through a full induction with support from the team, before they are ready to ‘go solo’.
“A DBS check is required (old CRB) and character references but the team help with all this and there is no cost to the volunteer. Expenses are reimbursed by the team to travel to and from a person’s home or to the office.
“None of our volunteers are required to carry out any personal care, all roles would be to befriend the person, chat, reminisce or support them to go out into the community.
“We also have some IT volunteers who support people to use a laptop, computer, iPad or even a new phone or TV!
“Whatever your skills and abilities, or however much time you can spare, we have opportunities that may suit.”
So if you would like to become a volunteer or are aware of someone who would benefit from having a volunteer support them, then please contact the team on 01928 569498 to discuss further.
The next event is themed on the Wizard Oz at Grangeway on, Monday 10 June and Upton on Tuesday 18 June.
