The joyful sound of children’s voices raised in song filled St Mary’s Church in West Bank on Sunday night at the Mayor of Halton’s Carols by Candlelight service.

Widnes Academy school choir and Ella Together Performance Group performed beautifully, enchanting everyone present with a special selection of carols.

Reverend Michelle Goodwin led an uplifting and memorable service, and provided one of the evening’s highlights – getting the congregation on its feet to sing and laugh along to The Twelve Days of Christmas!

Halton’s Mayor and Consort, Cllr Martha Lloyd Jones and Cllr Peter Lloyd Jones, were joined for the service by the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire – The King’s representative for Cheshire –  Lady Alexis Redmond MBE and Sir Phil Redmond CBE, the High Sheriff of Cheshire, Joelle Warren MBE DL, visiting Mayors of Wirral, Knowsley and St Helens, the Lord Mayor of Hale, Halton’s Deputy Mayor Cllr Pamela Wallace and Consort Cllr John Abbott, Council Leader Cllr Mike Wharton and Chief Executive Richard Rout.

The free event raised money for the Mayor’s charity funds, Halton Speak Out, Nightstop Communities Northwest and St Mary’s Church, with the congregation making donations and buying raffle tickets to help support Halton communities this Christmas.
