What has an ancient Japanese legend, origami cranes and Halton – the Liverpool City Region’s Borough of Culture 2021 – got in common this winter in Widnes and Runcorn? #DecorateHalton
Throughout the winter, we are decorating Halton with brightly coloured origami cranes. As this bird is a symbol of hope and good fortune, what better way to start 2021 – a great launchpad for #celebrateHalton – a year of activities.
Japanese legend states that any individual who can create 1,000 paper cranes will be granted a wish. How many can Halton residents make?!
You can get involved by collecting your origami art pack from any Halton libraries (via our contact free choose and collect service) – they contain full instructions on how to create your origami crane and origami paper so you can get started at home. Full instructional videos will also be available on Halton Libraries’ social media channels.
Cllr Eddie Jones, Halton Borough Council’s portfolio holder for the Visitor Economy, Heritage and Events, and Lead Member for Borough of Culture, says: “Let’s get creative and start off our Borough of Culture activities by bringing splashes of colour to Halton and sharing symbols of hope and good fortune throughout our community. Maybe hang your crane in the window to welcome and encourage renewed hope and fortitude in this new year?”
