Halton Borough Council’s Day Services is delighted to announce the opening of their brand new summer house at the Independent Living Centre, Runcorn.

The summer house will provide a safe haven for the service users who visit the ILC and is a welcome addition to an already bustling outdoor area.

An incredible £8,000-plus was raised to help bring the project to life with a celebratory event being held at the centre to thank everyone who helped raise the incredible sum of money.

The Day Services team raised around £4,000 from coffee mornings, Christmas fayre, football cards, plant, cake and craft sales, along with donations from parents and carers. The NHS then matched this amount with their own donation. Cllr Angela Ball, the Council’s Executive Board Member for Adult Social Care, also helped fundraise for the project and was chosen as the person to cut the ribbon.

Speaking about the event, Cllr Ball said: “It was a privilege to be able to officially open the new summer house at the Independent Living Centre. Having worked closely with the Day Services team I know just how much time and effort went into making sure this project was completed.

The ILC already has a tremendous outdoor space, and the addition of the summer house will only help enrich the lives of the service users that come here. Seeing how happy everyone was with the end result was a fantastic feeling.”

Children from Weston Point pre-school were also present at the event as part of a scheme to help young children gain a greater understanding of disabilities and different needs and help the service to create wider links with the community.
