Families in Windmill Hill, Runcorn, are now benefiting from a brighter, more welcoming family hub thanks to a major refurbishment led by staff and supported by global engineering firm Husco.

The Windmill Hill Family Hub is part of a wider initiative delivered by Halton Borough Council and the NHS, working in partnership with local schools and community organisations. Together, they’re making it easier for families to access the right support, in the right place, at the right time.

From parenting advice and baby groups to support for children with special educational needs and disabilities, the hub is now better equipped to serve the community in a space that feels safe, warm, and inclusive.

The transformation was driven by Carol Fenlon, Principal Manager and Christina Hadley, Senior Early Help Officer, whose creativity and vision helped bring the space to life. Husco staff volunteered their time and skills, and local suppliers donated paint, scaffolding, flooring, and equipment to help make it happen.

Refurbishment highlights include:

  • New wooden flooring and fresh paint in the family time room to make it feel warmer and more welcoming
  • The old training room is now a bigger, brighter office for staff
  • The previous office space has been turned into a quiet room for families and professionals.

Cllr Tom McInerney, Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Children and Young People, said: “This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when partners come together with a shared goal. We want every child to have the best start in life and family hubs give every family the opportunity to access free, local and trusted services and support.

“The hub is a vital resource for families in Windmill Hill, and this transformation means we can offer even more support in a space that truly meets their needs. I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to Husco and all the staff involved in revitalising the space – your hard work and generosity have made a real difference.”

Brad Kramer, Managing Director of Husco, added: “At Husco, we’re proud to support projects that make a real difference. Helping to improve the family hub fits perfectly with our commitment to making a positive local impact in each community where a Husco facility is located.”
