Halton Borough Council’s Road Safety Team is hosting a theatre production and awareness event, to engage older people in road safety techniques
Everyone aged 60+ is welcome to attend the day, on Monday 2 July, in the Brindley Theatre, High Street, Runcorn WA7 1BG.
This event will ensure all types of road users whether it be as a pedestrian or in a vehicle will stay safer for longer whilst using the roads. It is designed to help improve safety and increase confidence on roads for senior road users.
It will provide a short theatre production and information and advice to help you keep up to date and safe on the roads.
The event will highlight factors that can affect over 60s in terms of safe travel and aims to reduce the number of road traffic collisions involving senior road users.
FREE lunch and refreshments will also be provided.
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Transportation. Cllr Stan Hill, said; “Research shows in a crash, the risk of a person aged 60 or older being killed, whether in a vehicle or on foot or bicycle, is more than double that of a younger person.
“This is because older people’s bodies are more fragile, so they are more likely to suffer life-threatening injuries.
“They are less likely to recover from injuries or respond to emergency treatment, due to less physical strength and a greater risk of subsequent infections or other medical complications .
