Could you help lonely/vulnerable people in Runcorn and Widnes? Halton Borough Council needs people to volunteer, if it’s a chat over a cuppa, some IT help or volunteer driving, you could brighten up someone’s day.
Sure Start to Later Life is holding its first Volunteer Open Day this April in the main hall at Grangeway Community Centre, Runcorn, WA7 5HA on Monday 3 April from 1pm to 4pm.
All training is provided by Halton Borough Council, and a full induction programme takes place. Previously, volunteers who have moved on into employment, both within the council and externally, so it can be a great stepping stone.
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Marie Wright, said: “Halton’s Volunteer Service has been running for six years and is thriving, however we always need more people to join the team to offer support to our lonely/vulnerable people.
“Even if it’s only a few hours a month they can spare, there is always someone who would benefit from a chat over a cup of tea.
“On the day, we will have current volunteers there on hand to chat to the public about their role, there will be lots of information on the different roles available, and possibly some of our clients who are currently being supported may attend.
“They can talk to people about how their volunteer supports them, and the positive effect this has on their life. If this event goes well, then we hope to run it again in the future.”
Afternoon tea refreshments will be provided.
