If you own your own home, have an household income of less than £30,000 and/or receive a qualifying benefit you may be eligible for a grant to make your house warmer and reduce energy bills.

The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has secured £11.3 million from the government’s Green Homes Grant scheme. This will be split across the region’s six local authorities to pay for work on improving the energy efficiency of around 1200 homes by the end of 2021.

Halton has secured £728,000 of the funding, which could improve 72 properties. This is the first phase of this scheme to be delivered in Halton and we hope to secure more funding to continue the Green Homes Grant scheme into future years.

Potential improvements will vary depending on the individual property, but may include:

  • Cavity/solid wall insulation
  • Loft insulation
  • Under floor insulation
  • Alternative heating systems such as air source heat pumps and solar PV panels.

How to apply

If you meet the above criteria, please email us at greenhomesgrant@halton.gov.uk

What happens next?

If we think you are eligible, we will ask you to complete an application. If your application is accepted, a Halton Borough Council approved company will carry out a survey and arrange any improvement works. Please note financial assistance is subject to meeting scheme qualifying criteria and also subject to a technical survey.

Cllr Phil Harris (Climate Change) said: ‘I would encourage anyone who is eligible to apply to do so.  While it’s the summer now, winter will come soon enough and this scheme can help bring down energy bills for many homes during the cold weather.’’

Works are anticipated to start in late summer 2021 and must be completed by the end of the year.
