Halton Borough Council has so far been able to allocate and pay Business Grants to 1,254 businesses, totaling over £14.5 million.
This means more than 84 per cent of the eligible businesses who can apply for the grant have now received one.
Small Business Grants of £10,000, have been paid to just over 1,000 business.
Retail and hospitality businesses are eligible for grant payments of £10,000 and £25,000 depending on the business having a ratable value of less than £51,000.
According to records held, only 16 businesses are still to be paid out under this scheme and these are currently being investigated so payment can be made as quickly as possible.
As with all the grants payable, Halton Borough Council is identifying the businesses eligible by the rates receipts we currently have on file. Using current Government criteria, businesses which are not ratepayers in the business rates system are not included in the grant schemes.
The grants paid are not repayable, they are a direct payment to help small and retails business in these unpredictable times. Each business will need the money for different reasons, some to pay suppliers, some to pay furloughed staff and such like.
Halton Borough Council is hoping that by helping with such a speedy response has enabled to secure employment for the future when businesses can re-open again.
