Halton’s Register Office at Runcorn Town Hall has hosted what is thought to be the first ceremony in England following the easing of the lockdown restrictions today, 4 July.
The wedding ceremony of Widnes couple Louise Arnold and Jennifer Wilson took place this morning, just after midnight, on the day weddings can officially restart as specified by the updated Government Covid19 guidelines.
The couple took their vows in the beautifully lit and decorated Runcorn Town Hall, with Halton Borough Council’s Registrars officiating.
Jennifer’s parents were unable to attend – but they watched the ceremony online from their home in Australia, as did some of the couple’s family and friends in New Zealand, which is where they met.
The happy couple – now the Arnold-Wilsons – are thrilled that the Registration Service was able to conduct their ceremony at that time.
Registration Service Manager, Andrew Lucas, says: “We were delighted to help Louise and Jennifer say ‘I do’ on what we think was the first wedding after the lockdown period, and to help make sure that their special day is one they will remember forever. ”
Halton Registration Service has managed its bookings by liaising closely with couples whose ceremonies have been cancelled during the Covid19 lockdown.
The Registrars have been able to reschedule ceremonies and help those whose bookings were adversely affected during this period.
There are dates and times still available, but people have already been ringing for new bookings following the post 4 July lifting of restrictions.
