If you’re thinking about becoming a Foster Carer in 2018, Halton’s fostering service can offer advice and answer any questions at pop up drop in events in the borough this year. Meet experienced Foster Carers, members of the fostering team and take away information about the fostering process. The events take place each month on a Thursday between 11:00-13:00 in both Runcorn and Widnes at accessible venues with free parking nearby.
Drop in events are informal and people can drop in anytime between 11:00-13:00 to talk to the team and collect information and if the time is right, formally express their interest to begin the fostering process. People who have previously been in touch with the service are also welcome to attend.
In Runcorn you can join the fostering team at Halton Lea Library (WA7 2PF) January 18, March 15 and May 17. In Widnes you can join the team at Costa Coffee (WA8 7TN) February 15, April 26 and May 24.
Halton’s Executive Board member for Children & Young People, Cllr Tom McInerney, said:
“We want to make it as easy as possible for people to find out about becoming a foster carer and these informal drop in events in convenient locations give people a chance to speak to directly to those who are already fostering and our service team. In Halton, we really need more local people to come forward to become foster carers and we would encourage as many people as possible to drop in and find out more”.
People are often surprised to learn that basic “life skills” are a great starting point for those who want to become a Foster Carer. Halton offer a free comprehensive training package to new Foster Carers, so if you are over 21 and have a spare room, there is little else that will prevent you from applying.
