A Runcorn swimmer who volunteers at Norton Priory Café has made a splash after winning a gold, three bronzes and getting a fourth in the British Special Olympics.
Richard Lewis, aged 32 who has physical/learning disabilities and Autism competed in five swimming events in Sheffield last month.
His talented friend Bobbie Wright, from Widnes, aged 23, who works at The Route Café also put in an above-par performance, coming fifth in his golf event.
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Sport, Cllr Phil Harris, said: “This is a great achievement and both men are an inspiration to others.”
Both North Priory Café and The Route Café are run by Halton Borough Council for adults with learning difficulties.
Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organisation for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing year-round training and competitions to 5.7 million athletes and Unified Sports partners in 172 countries.
Both men are now set to feature in a TV documentary.
