Residents, businesses and visitors are being asked to have their say on what they would like to see as the priorities and plans for Widnes Town Centre in the future.
The comments and ideas shared will contribute to a new Widnes Town Centre Regeneration Framework that will set out the long-term goals and plans for the town. The Framework will also enable the Council to apply for funding streams in the months and years to come, to bring regeneration plans to fruition.
To begin the work, the Council has commissioned PLACED to deliver a number of community engagement activities to capture the ideas of local people. Comments and ideas can also be shared via an interactive website.
Talking about the start of the consultation with the community, Member of Parliament for Widnes and Halewood, Derek Twigg said: “I am pleased to have been working closely with the leadership of Halton Borough Council over the last few years around our shared priority of redeveloping and improving the town centre.”
Leader of the Council, Councillor Mike Wharton added:
“The development of this Framework is really important to anyone who has an interest in the future of Widnes. By taking part in this consultation, you are helping to shape the vision for Widnes Town Centre before any key decisions have been made.”
“As part of the consultation, we’ve suggested five themes to get the conversation started, but we want to hear directly from local people, local businesses and those who spend time in Widnes Town Centre about what really matters to them and what their priorities would be. I’d encourage people to come along to one of the planned drop in events, or if they cannot attend, make their views known online.”
The drop-in events are being held:
- Wednesday 23rd October, 11am-2pm, Widnes Indoor Market, Bradley Way, WA8 6UE
- Wednesday 23rd October, 4pm – 6.30pm,
Asda Widnes Superstore (Foyer), Widnes Road, WA8 6AH
- Saturday 26th October, 11am-2pm, Widnes Bandstand, Widnes Road (by Subway and Heron Foods), WA8 6BJ
- The online consultation is open for contributions until Sunday 17th November.
