Work began on site with Warden Construction at the beginning of April, following the relocation of the library to Church Street. Over the coming months, we will be transforming the former Granville Library building into a multifunctional building that will be home to a range of health, wellbeing and education services. These will provide families, young people and those living with long term conditions in Runcorn and surrounding area a ‘one-stop’ facility, opening in early 2026.

Library services will be provided from the Brindley Theatre Enhancement following completion in early 2026.

What this hub means for you:

The facility will provide advice, assessment, targeted support, intervention and education opportunities on the Runcorn High Street. We expect 60 new students attending further education from the hub, 500 additional healthcare assessments, and around 30,000 visitors expected to access the hub every year.

A similar model at the Warrington Living Well Hub has seen over 15,000 visitors through the door in the first 12 months.  88% of those visitors live in the most deprived / challenged areas of the town, ensuring that these services are accessed by those who need them most. 15% of visitors also access more than one of the services on offer as part of their attendance and a further 5% are signposted to another service offered outside of the hub.

The Lead for Children in Care and Care Leavers’ Service said: “A group of young people we work with have found the hub to be a valuable point of contact with a wrap-around service that can support their needs. The success of Warrington’s Living Well Hub is a strong indication as to what Runcorn can expect when the facility opens early next year.”

The new hub is part of the wider Reconnecting Runcorn programme, an ambitious group of projects that will collectively improve the lives and livelihoods of local people. The programme was awarded £23.6m in 2021 from the UK Government’s Towns Fund as part of the Town Deal Programme to deliver the Runcorn Town Investment Plan.

Stay Tuned: Keep an eye out for the latest updates on the project. The winning name will be announced in June!
