Halton Trading Standards have had reports of broadband/internet providers cold calling residents in the borough.
The callers are insisting residents pass their personal details on to them because it is concerning broadband installations coming to the area.
Halton Trading Standards advice is not to give your personal details to these cold callers. We believe they are trying to gather market research data.
Avoid being caught out by cold callers
- Keep your front and back doors always secure.
- If someone comes to your door, observe this code:
– Stop: Are you expecting anybody? Do they have an appointment?
– Chain: Secure the door bar or chain before opening the door.
– Check: Ask for and double check the caller’s ID.
- If they offer you products, services or to do work on your property say “No, thanks” and shut the door.
- Do not keep large sums of money at home.
If a scenario arises where you feel threatened, then please contact the Police on their non-emergency number 101. In an emergency call the Police on 999.
