Two dogs that were found tied up in Runcorn have sadly died.

The animals, a black female poodle and a white male terrier , were found tied up with red wire on Mason Street close to Astmoor Industrial Estate.

The Council’s Environmental Health team has launched an investigation and an appeal for information.

Both dogs were found in a poor state by a member of the public who alerted the Council’s dog warden. Once in the care of the dog wardens they were found to be extremely lethargic possibly due to heat exhaustion or lack of food. The dogs were later found to be in the late stages of parvovirus and sadly passed away.

Both dogs were aged approximately between two and four years old, and although microchipped, we have been unable to trace the owners.

A spokesperson for Halton Borough Council said: “On being notified about the two dogs, Environmental Health immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances of their deaths. The dogs were found tied up, emaciated and lethargic – one can only imagine how these dogs may have suffered particularly in the extreme heat we have experienced lately.

“We are appealing to anybody who may have any information about these two dogs to come forward and speak to us.

“If you have any information you can contact us by emailing environmental.protection@halton.gov.uk or speak to one of our advisors at the call centre by calling 0303 333 4300. We will treat any information we receive in the strictest confidence.”
