Halton Borough Council Trading Standards Officers are warning of emails targeting anyone who invests or uses financial services online.
Below is an example of a scam email regarding JPMorgan, but the same principles could apply to any investment/financial services companies.
The email is from JPMorgan Chase <davidm@ccrcollect.com. We would not expect an email from investment/financial services companies to be addressed in this way.
This is generally known as email spoofing, as the sender has tried to trick the recipient that they are from JP Morgan, but the actual sender of the email is davidm@ccrcollect.com.
The aim of the email is to steal the recipients JP Morgan login details.
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Trading Standards, Cllr Dave Cargill, said: “This means the email below is a scam and you can simply delete it.
“If you have any concerns about your accounts, then please log in through your normal means and not via any email links or attachments.”
