Local radio and TV personality John Cooper return to the Brindley Theatre this festive season to play King Willy the Umpteenth in Jack & the Beanstalk, which runs from 7 December until 8 January.

Born in Liverpool, John’s first Job was working as a clerk on Liverpool docks. With the smell of the sea air, it wasn’t long before he looked further afield, and at the age of 20, decided to become a holiday rep in Spain for a year. That year in the sun turned out to last ten!  He was eventually coaxed back to the UK, where he became the overseas manager for a large holiday company.

After years of flying all around the world on a weekly basis, John was given the opportunity to present the breakfast show on local radio, which he took, surprising many of his colleagues. He then spent the next 10 years getting up at “stupid o’clock”!

In 2008 John decided to give his headphones a rest and started working on Cruise TV programmes, where he has become the face of the most popular cruise programmes, which he presents every day, on Sky Channel 676.

He also presents a weekday radio show between 10am & 1pm across the North West & North Wales on Sandgrounder Radio.

This is John’s 16th year in panto- he has worked in Southport, Colwyn Bay, Bolton & Wrexham, playing everything from ‘Huntsman’ to ‘Widow Twanky’ but  he is really looking forward to coming back to the Brindley this year as King!
