Halton Borough Council’s Member of the UK Youth Parliament, is urging all young people aged 11 – 18 across Halton to get involved in Make Your Mark – the largest survey of young people across the country.
The UK Youth Parliament’s ‘Make Your Mar’k ballot will see over a million young people across the country asked about the issues that matter most to them, in order to determine what is debated by the UK Youth Parliament in the House of Commons on Friday 10 November.
Voting takes place both online and through ballot papers issues in schools and youth centres. Any young person aged 11 – 18 can take part in the ballot by visiting www.haltonyc.com/mym2017
Ten topics will be available to choose from on the Make Your Mark ballot paper, with the five most popular topics going on to be discussed by MYPs in their November debate, chaired by the Speaker of the House of Commons Rt. Hon. John Bercow MP and broadcast live on BBC Parliament.
The House of Commons debate in which Ewan Jago will be taking part will decide the Uk Youth Parliament’s campaign for 2017-18.
Last year, the Make Your Mark ballot surveyed the opinions of over 970,000 young people, making it the largest youth consultation of its kind in the UK.
Ewan, aged 15, said: “Last year the UK Youth Parliament gathered the views of more than 900,000 young people in the Make Your Mark ballot and this year the plan is to get over 1,000,000 returned ballots.
“That makes this the biggest exercise in youth democracy ever. That is why it is vital that young people and schools across the borough get involved and active in this year’s ballot.
“When I go to the House of Commons in November I want to ensure that I know the thoughts of Halton’s youth so they I can help them to Make Their Mark!”
Halton Borough Council’s Exeuctive Board Member for Children, Young People and Families, Cllr Tom McInerney, said: “This is a great way for local young people to really make a difference nationally.”
