Halton’s Mayor and Consort have officially opened a new eco-friendly cafe in the heart of Widnes.
Brand new Bistro 53, in Widnes Road, joins Arroy Thai (also relaunched by The Mayor) Caffe Fm, San Marino (Italian), Tea for Two and American diner style The Route, in what is becoming a haven for foodies.
There is also a traditional fish and chip shop in the area.
The new cafe is run by Monika Cavojcova, who has many years cafe experience in Widnes. She said she wanted it to be a new type of cafe.
“I always had a passion for a coffee and food . and want to create a place with personal touch, where people come in and feel great, where someone serves you food with a smile,” she said.
“I love what i do;and I want people to feel it . And i do care about our planet and I think if we all did our bit, we could achieve something.
“Most if our veg for our bistro comes loose on a paper box,not pre-packed in the plastic wrappers . all take away containers,cutlery,cups are vegware, decompostable and we only use paper carrier bags.
“We recycle all our cardboard and we have a bin for a glass too We buy our meat from the local butcher, helping the local economy and we are working on vegan recipes.
“Our cups and lids are made from plants We only use plant-based disposables, made from renewable materials.
She said: “It does seem this end of town is becoming a self-styled ‘Cafe Quarter’ which gives people lots of choice.
Mayor Margaret Horabin said: “It is pleasing to see another new business in this area of Widnes. And who doesn’t love a good cup of coffee and good food?”
Arroy Thai has relauched after a re-fit to the Widnes Road eatery. The area around Widnes Post Office now has several eateries, which have started ti revitalise the area, according to local traders.
