Two Halton charities will benefit from fantastic fundraising efforts as the 2022-23 Mayoral year raised a bumper £23,248.
Halton Carers Centre and Widnes & Runcorn Cancer Support Group each received £11,624 following Cllr Mark Dennett and his wife Andrea’s year in office.
A spokesperson for Halton Carers Centre said: “We are delighted to receive £11,624 from the Mayors Charity, which we will use towards funding of our services to meet carers’ needs especially towards the provision of peer support groups, social activities and training courses.
“On behalf of all staff, Trustees, volunteers and carers in Halton we would like to thank former Mayor and Mayoress, Mark and Andrea Dennett, for this funding and help in raising awareness of unpaid carers within Halton. It has been a fun and interesting year as a Mayor’s Charity recipient. We wish you both well for the future!”
Widnes & Runcorn Cancer Support Group are also thrilled to receive the support: “We will use the funds raised by the Mayor’s Fundraising Group to provide vital therapeutic services for local people who have been affected by cancer.
“This will go towards the costs of professional counselling for adults, and support sessions for children and young people. It will also help with the provision of holistic therapies, specifically designed for those with a cancer diagnosis, delivered by professionally trained cancer specialist therapists.”
Cllr Dennett says: “Andrea and I thoroughly enjoyed our Mayoral Year and would like to thank the people of Halton once again for all of their kindness and support that they gave us. Halton is truly blessed to have so many wonderful businesses and organisations that support the borough.
“In the current economic climate, we are blown away to have raised £23,248.00 for our two charities. We know how brilliant they both are, and that this money will help a lot of people.
“Andrea and I would like to thank the fundraising group and the staff at Halton Stadium for all of their help and support in raising this amount of money, and also to thank everyone who donated to the fund.
“We wish the new Mayor and Consort, Cllrs Val and Stan Hill, the very best for their Mayoral Year.”
