Halton Borough Council Trading Standards has been made aware of scam text messages received by residents allegedly from their mobile phone networks.
These type of messages often contain a ‘call to action’, encouraging the recipient to click on a link or go to a website that criminals use for stealing valuable data such as usernames and passwords, financial details, and other personal information.
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Trading Standards, Cllr Dave Cargill, said: “They often use urgent language to trick recipients into making a quick decision, such as your phone will be cut off or there are problems with your account etc. “
