Halton Borough Council is busy working through hundreds of applications from local businesses for the most recent Government funded grants.

The Local Authority Discretionary Grant Fund is being administered by Halton Borough Council on behalf of central Government.

The cut-off point for submissions is fast approaching  –  the final date for applications is  Sunday 19 July.

The Government has given Halton Borough Council 5% of the original grant total to issue from the Discretionary Grant Fund, this equates to £831k.

In the borough we have approximately 1,500 business who have not received any Covid Government funding whatsoever.

These include many single-person jobs, or jobs where a property or a shared space has not been eligible under the other business grant schemes.

The discretionary grant may also apply to the charitable support sector. The Council has taken the decision to support as many businesses as possible by providing smaller grants to eligible applicants.

The Council has received 228 applications so far and has approved 76, totalling £367,500. The remaining applications are currently being assessed.

It is important to note that the demand for funds will outweigh the actual amount of money provided to the Council.

Cllr Eddie Jones, Executive Board Member for Economic Development, said: “This supplementary funding support, which we have obtained and are keen to distribute,

is a welcome boost to our collective efforts in combatting this crisis.

“It will provide some much needed assistance to an additional number of businesses in our borough, and the Council will continue to work hard at allocating grants as quickly as possible. If you intend to apply, please hurry. Take care everybody.“
