Halton Borough Council has the opportunity to apply for funding to increase the number of ‘Changing Places Toilets’ available in the borough.
Changing Places Toilets are larger accessible toilets for people who cannot use standard disabled toilets and have equipment such as hoists, curtains, adult-sized changing benches and space for carers.
More than 250,000 people need these facilities to enable them to get out and about and participate in day-to-day and enjoyable activities. There are currently around 1,200 registered Changing Places Toilets in England but provision needs to increase quickly to improve access for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets, and their carers.
Registered on the Changing Places Toilet map https://changingplaces.uktoiletmap.org/find Halton has Changing Places Toilets in:-
- Widnes Market
- Tesco Widnes Extra
- Catalyst Science Museum, Widnes
- Phoenix Park Café, Runcorn
While Halton Borough Council is keen to expand the number of Changing Places Toilets in the borough, this is a bidding process and we will have to wait to hear if we are successful or not. However, in the meantime, we will be looking at locations and conducting feasibility studies around adequate space (Changing Place rooms are usually 12 square metres in size to adequately house all of the equipment).
To inform this planning work we would like you to share your top 3 priority locations in Halton with us by completing this survey:
https://webapp.halton.gov.uk/survey_snap/changingrooms.htm
The survey will be open to responses until the end of September 5, 2021.
