Hough Green Garden of Remembrance on Ditchfield Road, Widnes, was officially opened last week.
Members of the local community gathered, just ahead of VJ Day, to both celebrate the occasion and honour the memory of those who fell during the Second World War.
The event was marked by the presence of the Mayor of Halton, Cllr Martha Lloyd Jones, who performed the official unveiling.
The creation of the garden was made possible through the support of Derek Twigg MP and the close collaboration between Halton Borough Council and the local community group.
The site was first designated as a memorial garden in 1954 and remained an undeveloped roadside greenspace for decades. Working alongside local residents Bob Martindale and Norman Smith, the Council brought to life their long-standing vision for the project, ensuring the site’s history could be shared and preserved.
It is hoped that the Garden of Remembrance will offer residents a peaceful space for quiet reflection.
