More than 900 pupils enjoyed the sun in Victoria Park, Widnes, on Thursday, joined by Olympic, Commonwealth Games (and The Voice) star Jazmin Sawyers to ‘Go Run For Fun’
Go Run For Fun at Victoria Park saw pupils from 12 primary schools running the 2km course. The event was organised by Halton Borough Council’s Sports Development Team in partnership with the Great Run Company.
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Sport, Cllr Phil Harris, said: “Where better than this beautiful park for young people to enjoy some healthy, fun exercise.
“Perhaps they will get a taste for it and join one of the Park Runs. It seemed everyone enjoyed themselves on the day and even the weather was on our side.”
The run, which saw the 240,000th child in the UK start the run, began at 11am after a warm up with the event’s mascot, Dart
Jazmin Sawyers (born 21 May 1994) is a British track and field athlete who competes in the long jump. She has also competed as a bobsledder and a heptathlete.
She was the silver medallist in the long jump at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. In 2017, she competed in the sixth series of The Voice UK.
