Halton Borough Council has urged people to be vigilant after reports a Widnes resident recently received a phone call from a scam Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) company asking her for payment up front in iTunes vouchers to release the money she was owed in PPI.
This is a scam and a genuine company would never ask for payment upfront or for payment in vouchers.
If you think you are owed PPI, then you can make a claim yourself. Please see the moneysavingexpert.com website for more information: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance
And if you receive unwanted and unsolicited calls on your landline/mobile phone you can register for free with the Telephone Preference Service at http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/number_type.html
If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a fraud please contact one of our specialist officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.
