Pupils from a Widnes school have been working to reduce illegal and dangerous parking outside the school.
Halton Council’s Road Safety Team, Cheshire Police and Spinney Avenue School have formed a partnership aimed at changing parents attitudes and habits to reduce congestion and dangerous parking outside the school.
Children have been working with Halton Borough Council on road safety messages in school which have gone onto the school website, which will display road safety messages for the parents to see. They have also helped designed signs which they put out during peak times.
Cheshire Police has stepped up patrols at the site.
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Transportation. Cllr Stan Hill, said: “As a Council we are committed to making Halton’s roads safer with a focus on school areas over the coming months.
“With cooperation from parents and delivery drivers and encouragement to park considerately around the area the journey to and from school can be made much safer.
“Spinney Avenue School took up the challenge to raise awareness of parents and members of the public parking illegally outside the school causing potential hazards for the children crossing.
“We are also trying to encourage parents and children to walk to school to ease congestion and encourage a healthy life style.”
