Halton Trading Standards wants to make residents aware of cold calling workmen who are operating in the area.

A resident has had a trader knocking on their door claiming to be from Halton Borough Council, claiming she must pay £250 to have some trees felled on her property and if the resident does not pay today she will be taken to court and the cost would be £900.

This is a rogue trader and is not employed or in any way associated with Halton Borough Council.

Halton Trading Standards advice is never to deal with cold callers. If you do need work carrying out, try to get written quotes from at least three different contractors before you decide on one.

If you think you have been caught out by a rogue trader, please contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline who will forward your details to Trading Standards.

If a scenario arises where you feel threatened then please contact the Police on their non-emergency number 101. In an emergency call the Police on 999.

If you need advice on anything else please contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline  or 0808 223 1133.
