A group of environmentally conscious residents have shown a ‘litter respect’ by completing a litter pick through Runcorn Town Centre. And you can get involved in the next one!
Halton Borough Council Community Development Team established a group of volunteers in Runcorn Old Town (Mersey Ward) who named themselves the ‘Love Where you Live’ Group, bringing together various community members including Old Town Bloomers project, All Saints Parish church, Hazelhurst Studio, Runcorn WI, Trinity Church, Rotary Club and the Unity Project.
Last Saturday (8 July) the group got together (17 volunteers in total) to complete a litter pick through the town centre area, working along High Street, around the car park areas, up towards The Brindley.
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for the Physical Environment, Cllr Ron Hignett, said: “Of course in a perfect world we wouldn’t need people to clean up other people’s litter. But let’s hope this encourages people to show more respect for the environment.
“It is also encouraging to see so many community groups coming together to better the environment in which we all live.”
The group, which was the brain child of Cllr Pauline Sinnott, is meeting next week to discuss further community clean-up events with plans included litter collections from the Trinity area and Dukesfield areas around the town centre.
