For the past two months, sculptors, fine artists, printmakers, costume designers, graphic designers and photographers from Cronton College, Widnes have been creating artworks inspired by The Danny steamship to share with the local community.
The students have visited The Danny to learn about its unique story and links to local history, and met some of the people involved in the restoration process. They have developed a range of exciting concepts for artwork, the results of which will be exhibited on board the historic vessel and in Widnes Library.
The launch takes place on board The Danny at Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge on Thursday, November 21, 6,30pm-8.30pm. All are welcome to come see the exciting potential of these emerging young artists. Listen to an electronic take on the jazz music of the Art Deco era, as music students perform live. Try some simple printmaking techniques under the guidance of the students. Tour the vessel and the exhibition of the students work at the same time.
Their work will be exhibited at Widnes Library from Tuesday November 26 to Thursday December 5: Mon, Wed and Fri 10am-5pm; Tues and Thurs 9am-7pm; Sat 10am-2.30pm.
