As more of the projects complete on site and are putting the finishing touches in place ready to open to the public in 2026, the Reconnecting Runcorn team have taken a step back to reflect on the last four years to discover a major milestone has been reached.

The Reconnecting Runcorn programme has nearly doubled its total investment in match funding since receiving £23.6 million from the UK Government’s Towns Fund in 2021.

This achievement reflects the power of collaboration, with every £1 of initial government funding matched by an additional £1 from local businesses, charities, grant bodies, council funding and community support. The result is a dynamic and growing portfolio of regeneration projects that are laying the foundations for Runcorn’s future.

“This is such a significant achievement for everyone involved in the programme from board members to investors, project teams and volunteers,” said Rachael Owen, Co-Chair of the Runcorn Town Neighbourhood Board. “It just shows what’s possible when public funding is combined with the local passion and partnership of the people in Runcorn making things happen to improve the future of not only the town but the opportunities for residents.”

A Community-Driven Vision

Reconnecting Runcorn is more than a funding programme for regeneration. It’s a shared vision for revitalising the town. From infrastructure improvements to cultural initiatives, the programme is designed to reconnect people, places, and opportunities.

“Reconnecting Runcorn and the wealth of different projects really has put Runcorn on the map,” said Tony Collacott, Trustee at Wat Phra Singh UK Buddhist Temple.

Key projects include:

  • Unlock Runcorn
  • Brindley Enhancement
  • Dukesfield Murals
  • Buddhist Temple Peace Garden and Ubosot Hall
  • High Street New Homes
  • 57-59 High Street: Youthy.com, Youth Centre
  • 63 – 65 High Street: Mako Create & A Place for Us
  • 71 High Street: Hazlehurst Studios
  • Runcorn Station Quarter Enterprise Hub: Elite House
  • Health and Education Hub: WELL Runcorn

Momentum for the Future

As the programme expands to include the new ‘Pride in Place’ funding over the coming months, it continues to attract new partners and investment, reinforcing Runcorn’s position as a town on the rise. The success so far is a testament to the strength of local collaboration and the long-term commitment to regeneration.
