📅 Sun 28 Jun 2026 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM

📍 Spike Island, Widnes, WA8 0DF

Join RECORD and Halton Borough Council as we celebrate ‘all things insect’ at Spike Island as part of Halton Naturewatch and National Insect Week.

There are estimated to be more than 24,000 insect species in the UK alone. From Beetles to Bumblebees and everything in between, insects are vital to our ecosystems and conserving them has never been more important.

RECORD’s Ecological Monitoring Officer Matt will be leading us on a walk around Spike Island as we look out for and learn about the insects living there. Come along to find out how to make a start when it comes to insect identification and to try out some different recording techniques. Whilst we go, we’ll be recording the insects that we find and pick up some tips for making a difference to insect conservation through citizen science.

Accessibility: We will be taking  a slow stroll around the Spike island. We plan to walk for around 1.5 hours in total as part of the session. If you have any mobility needs or other additional needs please do not hesitate to get in touch with us ahead of the event to discuss (email info@record-lrc.co.uk).

The event is free to attend and is aimed at adults. We will be meeting near to the carpark at Spike island. Details on the exact meeting point will be emailed to you when you book – please check your spam box if you’ve not heard from us.
