From Friday 19 June – Sunday 21 June, Halton Borough Council will be undertaking asphalt preservation works on the Silver Jubilee Bridge as favourable weather forecasts allow for the planned works to proceed.
These preventative treatments are a vital part of maintaining our highway assets. By applying preservation techniques at the right time, we can significantly extend the lifespan of the existing asphalt, helping to delay more costly resurfacing or reconstruction works and reduce the impact on our communities. This approach not only provides better long-term value for public funds but also reduces disruption to road users by avoiding the need for more extensive interventions later.
In addition, preservation treatments help protect the underlying structure from water ingress and deterioration, which is especially important on key infrastructure such as the bridge. By sealing and strengthening the surface, we are improving the overall resilience of the route, helping it withstand the effects of traffic loading and weather conditions over time.
Please note the following traffic management:
Friday 19 June PM: Closures of the roundabout at Runcorn Station link road and expressway approaches Bridgewater expressway A558 and Weston expressway A577
Saturday 20 June: Full closure of the Silver Jubilee Bridge from Runcorn roundabout to Ditton junction
Sunday 21 June: Ditton interchange under traffic management
The Council would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused for users of the bridge.
