Where can ‘Uke’ hear a band, see a story-telling ‘wizard’, learn coding or bang some drums at a picnic? At one of our ‘Fun Palaces’ this Saturday of course.
Runcorn Town Centre, Halton Lea Library , Runcorn Library and Ditton Library will join 300+ Fun Palaces across the UK and globally on Saturday 7 October, set to erupt with free and fun activities, celebrating culture in our community – and you’re invited!
At Ditton Library Fun Palace you can learn how to sew a quilt and make a rag rug with the Bridge Quilters group and try your hand at coding with micro:bits, electrodough and more tech.
Halton Lea Library will be hosting Runcorn Community Choir, you can experiment with oil paints on canvas and see how you can make digital music. The event will start at 10.30am. While there will be coding workshops and ‘rhyme time’ at Runcorn Library.
An ‘Imaginarium’ event starts in Old Town Bloom Garden at 9:30am with opening from Mayor and a performance from PUG Ukulele Group, followed by a local story-teller giving stories to the children…..dressed in a full wizard costume I’m told.
Then from 10am there will be community venues open for the public to visit to try out things.
We’ll have open:
• Runcorn Library – Coding Workshop and rhyme time
• Halton Play Council – Traditional playtime events.
• Churchill Hall – Learn to play Ukulele with PUG and Sewing Bees, learn to sew and mend
• Old Town Bloom – Arts & Crafts, including badge making and a face-painter for children
• All Saints Church – Halton Borough Council’s Waste Management, events continuing from recycle week
Kyujutsu Archery club and Halton Borough Council’s Sports Decelopemt will be there. PCSO Paul will be based at the church too and we’ll have a lunch-time picnic (outdoors but probably in) with a drum circle for people to join in and play drums
Fun Palaces is an ongoing campaign for community at the heart of culture, with an annual weekend of events each October.
