Runcorn Station Quarter is a major part of the Council’s Mersey Gateway Regeneration Programme. The programme aims to maximise the long-term economic benefits from the new crossing for Halton and set outs a package of development and investment that will transform Halton over the next decade.
As part of a wider Masterplan, proposals for the regeneration of the ‘Station Quarter’ area of Runcorn will be presented to the Executive Board on Thursday (15 November).
The Masterplan has been produced using a set of guiding principles, aimed at providing a mix of land uses complementary to the rest of the town, improving the public realm around the station and providing better links to the town centre.
To progress the Masterplan the Council will work in partnership with a developer, and an exercise is taking place to identify an appropriate partner.
The Executive Board report also includes an update on the delinking of the Silver Jubilee Bridge (SJB) and new junction to serve Runcorn Station and the surrounding area.
Council Leader, Cllr Rob Polhill, says: “The opening of the Mersey Gateway has given us this huge opportunity to transform the area in front of Runcorn Station. We want people getting off the train at Runcorn Station to get a brilliant first impression of our town and for there to be new places for local people to live, work or enjoy. Doing this work now means we are in the best position possible to achieve these things moving forward.”
