Halton Borough Council is the first in the city region to achieve a major disability award.

It has become the first council across the Liverpool City Region to be recognised as a Level 3 Disability Confident Employer.

Disability Confident Employers  have to demonstrate to assessors that they are:

  • Challenging attitudes towards disability
  • Increasing understanding of disability
  • Removing barriers to disabled people and those with long-term health conditions
  • Ensuring that disabled people have the opportunities to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations.

As a Level 3 employer, Halton will now be acting as a champion for the Disability Confident Scheme within the local and business communities.

Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Resources, Cllr Mike Wharton, said: ” Halton is very pleased to achieve Level 3 of the Government’s Disability Confident scheme, and especially to be the first local authority in the Liverpool City Region to do so.

“We will act as a champion for the Scheme within our local and business communities, and support businesses in our supply chains and networks to become Disability Confident.

“In doing so, we will be showing people living with a disability that we are leading the way in getting every business to become Disability Confident, as well as benefitting from being able to draw from the widest possible pool of talent.”
