At the end of October, National Highways will be ready to lift the A533 Expressway bridge into position.

To do this, they’ll need to close the M56 motorway in both directions for one full weekend. At the same time,  the A533 Expressway bridge will also be closed in both directions from the Murdishaw roundabout to Preston Brook.

The following diversion routes will be in place and clearly signed.

Delays are expected so please allow extra time for your journeys.

A56 closed for two weeks from 24 October

A section of the A56 will be closed to carry out essential drainage works. The road will be closed from the junction with the A533 (Murdishaw roundabout) to the junction with Station Road.

The closure will be in place for two weeks from 6am Monday 24 October to 9pm Sunday 6 November 2022. The diversion will add around 10 minutes to your journey time. The following diversion route will be in place.

Access will be available to local residents and businesses located inside the closure. This will be via a controlled access point at the junction with Station Road.
