More than 60 older people enjoyed the latest ‘Grangeway Get-Together’ organised by Halton Borough Council’s Sure Start to Later Life team. This one took a retro theme, with ‘landgirls’ old memorabilia and even washing hung out to give it that 1940s feel!
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Marie Wright, said: “Everyone is made to feel very welcome, it’s a great way to make new friends, with lots of fun and laughter, singing and if people want to, they can have a dance.”
Here are some of the positive comments from previous events.
“The Get together helps me get my husband away from the TV and gives me a chance to have other people to talk to, would miss it if it had to stop”.
“I lost my husband in 2015 and it took me a long time to pull myself together thanks to you this helps”
“Stops isolation, make friends and something to look forward to. Everyone is very friendly and it is nice to come in have a chat and a little dance!
“Had a positive effect on my life – meeting people, getting fresh air, keeps everything working”
The council holds regular tea socials at Grangeway Community Centre on the second Monday of the month, from 1pm to 4pm, from February to November in Runcorn.
